Massimiliano Calabretta is distinct among Etna producers in that he releases his wines only after long aging in large wooden barrels and in bottle; often releasing his wines 6 months to 8 years behind other Etna producers.

There is a Nebbiolo-like profile to his wines with aromas of dried cherries, tar, licorice and hints of ashy volcanic soil. There is a substantial weight, texture, acidity and "grip" to the wines making them perfect for food.
