Idlewild Rose 'Flora & Fauna'
WINE TYPE: Rose
VARIETAL: 41% Nebbiolo, 30% Dolcetto, 29% Barbera
COUNTRY: United States
Wine maker Sam Bilbro explores the potential of northern Italian varietals grown in Mendocino and the results are absolutely thought-provoking and delicious. Sam works with two primary vineyards in Mendocino, with the fruit for this wine coming mainly from the Fox Hill Vineyard southeast of Ukiah on Mendocino's Talmage Bench. These are well draining soils made up of primarily of gravel and sandstone.
A co-ferment of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera, the wine shows fresh aromas of blood orange and grapefruit with savory herbs and a mouthwatering salinity.
