Why Shop Small?
As you most likely know about 2A, promoting the small Mom and Pop (or in our instance, Pop & Pop) business in Milwaukee has always been at the forefront of our business mission. Small,
local businesses are, and will always be, the backbone of our economy... no matter where you
live in the world. Local people working to serve local people in the communities which you
both most likely live. Mom & Pop business owners tend to have a vested interest in the community,
its citizens, and the local economy. Consequently, they offer highly interactive and personalized services
that large, big box corporations just cannot replicate.
The economic benefits for supporting the small, local business is compelling. For every $100
you spend at a locally owned Milwaukee business, $73 remains within the community of that
business. Compare that to the same $100 spent at a non-locally owned, big box business,
where only $43 remains in the local economy.
Still not convinced? Here are a few more reasons that may help persuade you to shop small
and local:
1. Product Knowledge
2. Personal Relationships
3. Diverse Products
4. Increased Expertise
5. Better Service
6. Local Investment
7. Less Crowds
In the end, the answer to why you should shop small and local is because when supporting local
businesses, you create a win-win situation for everyone within the community. You get the best
buying experience, the owner and employees get their livelihood, and the community gets the
taxes.
